Step 1

Preparation

Start by rounding up your must-have gear, which your mountain guide will usually provide. Don’t forget some sturdy hiking boots, warm clothes, and a good backpack to carry it all. Also, make sure you’ve got any necessary permits and vaccinations sorted out.



Step 2

Day One: Arrival

Once you arrive in Moshi, you'll get a friendly briefing on your trekking itinerary. This is also the perfect time to pick up any gear you might not have been able to bring from home. Plus, your guide will share some helpful tips for acclimatizing to the altitude so you can enjoy the adventure ahead.



Step 3

The Trek Begins

Once you're all set with the registration and clearances at the entry gate, it's time to kick off your mountain trekking adventure. The beginning of the trail is lush with greenery and stunning views, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot some wildlife along the way. Enjoy your trek!



Trekking Highlights:

Mandara Hut: Experience the lush rainforest and spot unique wildlife like colobus monkeys.
Horombo Hut: Enjoy stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Kibo Hut: Trek through the alpine desert and prepare for the final ascent.

Trekking Schedule

Day 1: Arrival and Trek to Mandara Hut

Morning: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Marangu Gate.
Midday: Begin the trek through the rainforest to Mandara Hut.
Evening: Dinner and overnight stay at Mandara Hut.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Morning: Continue the trek through moorland and heathland.
Midday: Arrive at Horombo Hut for lunch.
Evening: Dinner and overnight stay at Horombo Hut.

Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

Morning: Optional hike to Zebra Rocks for acclimatization.
Midday: Return to Horombo Hut for lunch.
Evening: Relax and overnight stay at Horombo Hut.

Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Morning: Trek through the alpine desert to Kibo Hut.
Midday: Arrive at Kibo Hut for lunch.
Evening: Early dinner and rest in preparation for the summit attempt.

Day 5: Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Descend to Horombo Hut

Midnight: Begin the ascent to Uhuru Peak.
Morning: Reach the summit and enjoy the breathtaking views.
Midday: Descend back to Kibo Hut for lunch.
Evening: Continue descending to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

Morning: Trek back through the rainforest to Marangu Gate.
Midday: Transfer back to your hotel or the airport for departure.
